Girl Scouts puts girls first. Research studies show a
benefit to same-gender learning environments. We agree!
Three goalsvalues, leadership, and diversitypermeate every
aspect of Girl Scouting.
We are a values-based organization. That means character, conduct, and
community service count.
Who Can Be a Girl Scout?
Any girl between the ages of 5 and 17 may become
a member of Girl Scouts. She must accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law
and register with a Girl Scout council.
All members are known as Girl Scouts. Girl Scouting has five age levels.

To Register a Girl in Girl Scouting
1. Contact the GSPW council office at 1-800-562-9787
2. GSPW will:
Provide a membership form. The form, once completed, must
have a parent's/guardian's signature, along with a membership fee.
Give you the name of an area troop organizer, area manager, or leader.
Invite you to a troop organization meeting with other interested parents,
or put you on a waiting list so that your girl can
participate in non-troop
activities until a troop is available.
Give information about how your girl can participate in activities if
she is unable to join a troop.
Cost of Membership
Membership in Girl Scouting costs $10.00 a year.
That money goes to Girl Scouts of the USA for program development, council
assistance, insurance, and other services by the national organization.
Other Costs
Troops will often set weekly or monthly dues,
depending upon what they plan to do. These dues are mutually agreed upon
by the girls and their leader.
Girl Scout handbooks are highly recommended.
Girl Scout uniforms are recommended, but not mandatory.
Each family may support the troop by donating refreshments for some meetings.
Generally, additional costs cover individual or troop field trips, special
events, and overnights. Troops can finance these activities through budgeting
their product sale money or by running additional council-approved money-earning
events.
Wider opportunity events sponsored by councils and Girl Scouts of the
USA for Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts have fees for program, site, travel,
and accommodations. Airfare to these events is additional. National and
local scholarships are available.
Financial Assistance
GSPW offers financial assistance available for membership and special activities, including going to camp. "Product Sale credits" can also be earned by girls and applied to activity or summer camp fees.
